Project Summary

Created by Decree with no number, of February 4, 2002, and by Law No. 11,486, of June 15, 2007, the Jericoacoara National Park, located in the state of Ceará, occupies an area of 8,863 hectares and is among the five most visited protected areas in Brazil.

Located in a region of immense potential and tourist appeal, with dunes, beaches, lagoons and typical vegetation, the destination is consolidated and Jericoacoara is internationally recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. The creation of the Park was one of the main factors that contributed to the maintenance of the characteristics of the fishing village site and the maintenance of simplicity and its rustic character, preserving unique aspects of the region and allowing the tourist exploration to be maintained with environmental sustainability.

The recent opening of Jericoacoara Regional Airport tends to increase in a significant way the flow of visitors to the Park. In this sense, the concession of services is fundamental not only to structure the conservation unit with the necessary means for effective access control, as well as to improve the user experience through improvements of internal roads, implementation of equipment facilitating access, trail signs, provision of services such as food, lodging and commerce.

The qualification of the Park in the PPI, made by the Council through the Resolution No. 79, of August 21, 2019, has the objective of making the concession of the public service to support visitation, as well as services to support conservation, protection and management of the conservation unit.
