On November, 10, the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) Secretary, Martha Seillier, participated in the Kick-off ceremony that marked the launch of the privatization studies on the Port of Itajaí, organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Scheduled to go up for auction in the second half of 2022, the asset was qualified in the PPI portfolio at the 13th meeting of the PPI Council, held in June, 2020.

“The privatization of Brazilian ports is one of the top priorities of our administration. The Port of Itajaí will be a new challenge for our professionals, who so far have conceived structuring projects planned and in accordance with public interests”, highlighted Minister Tarcísio de Freitas.

“The PPI team is glad to see a project like this move forward. We believe that what MInfra is doing in terms of delegating the port as a whole will be transformative. I congratulate everyone involved in this project. We are sure that this legacy will be recognized by the country in the coming years”, said Secretary Martha Seillier.

The Itajaí Port Complex is the main option for exporters and importers operating in Santa Catarina and the second largest in container handling in Brazil. Until September 2020, the accumulated handling of containers reached the mark of 1.011 million TEUs. Despite the Covid-19 crisis, the complex grew by 12% over the same period in 2019.

The studies, which are already being structured by the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL) since the first semester of 2020, will also have the support of DEMAREST Advogados, Exe Engenharia and Mind Engenharia Studies and Projects for the preparation transaction report and business evaluation, legal due diligence, technical-operational evaluation, human resources evaluation, management and governance, actuarial and social security and environmental evaluation.
