The BR-040/MG/RJ section project, which connects Rio de Janeiro/RJ to Juiz de Fora/MG, was qualified in the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) at the 2nd Meeting of the PPI Council on March 7th, 2017. The qualification in the Concessions Program of the Federal Government signals the beginning of studies for the new concession.
The section, which has an extension of 180.4 km, is also a relevant connector between Brasília and Rio de Janeiro. Currently, the enterprise is managed by CONCER Concessionaire and the agreement expires on March 1st, 2021.
The average volume of vehicles is approximately 17 thousand per day, with a daily average of 168 occurrences, between medical aid and mechanical distress.
This Highway, as well as BR-116/RJ and BR-116/RJ/SP, is strategic for the extent and volume of traffic. In this sense, they must be studied together in order to define the model that generates the highest asset value.
The Highway has already received approximately BRL 1.5 billion in investments. Another important aspect is the current construction of the new ascent of Serra de Petrópolis - which is under the responsibility of the concessionaire.
The investments resulting from the new contract should improve the service offered, and technical aspects as: greater fluidity and reliability; improvements of cargo and passenger transport safety; reduction of occurrences of damages and accidents; and, consequently, optimization of travel time and logistic cost.
Importance: makes the connection between Rio de Janeiro and Juiz de Fora/MG. Main road corridor between the states of MG and RJ, besides being a relevant stretch on the radial highway that connects Brasília and RJ.
Currently, the project is in the preparation phase of the studies.
