aratu20200821
On 8/5, the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) approved the feasibility studies for the PPP of the ATU12 and ATU18 port terminals at the Port of Aratu, state of Bahia (BA). The studies had been filed with the Court in March.

The two terminals are prepared for solid bulk, especially soybeans and fertilizers, being crucial to meet the demands of agricultural production in MATOPIBA - a region that covers areas in the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia (the name “Matopiba” is an acronym formed with the initial letters of these five brazilian states).

The assets were qualified in the PPI portfolio in August, 2019, during the 10th meeting of the PPI Council:

ATU12: brownfield project of approximately 160,000m², with an expected average handling of two million tons/year. Projected investments are worth BRL 250 million throughout the 25 years of contractual term.

ATU18: greenfield project, with an estimated area of 51,600 m². Designed to handle 8 million tons/year at the end of the contract. Projected investments are worth BRL 120 million throughout the 15 years of contractual term.

Next steps. The studies will be updated according to the recommendations made by TCU. Following, they will be submitted for approval by ANTAQ (National Agency for Waterways Transport) for publication of auction notices and contracts and definition of the date for the auction session, which should be held this year.
