Project Summary

The early renewal of the concession contract of the Centro-Atlântica Railroad was qualified in the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI) during the 2nd Meeting of the PPI Board, on March 7, 2017. The expected benefits from the extension of the current contract, for another 30 years, will be the obligation of investing in safety and increased capacity, which shall be agreed by the National Terrestrial Transportation Agency (ANTT).

The main goods handled in 2016, in thousands of useful tonnage, were:

• soy, 4.720;
• iron ore, 3.797;
• sugar, 3.182;
• corn; 2.525;
• steel limestone, 1.669;
• bauxite, 1.092;
• sulfur, 946;
• soymeal, 869;
• corrective limestone, 769;
• phosphate, 694;
• potassium chloride, 567;
• diesel oil, 546;
• filled container, 538;
• dolomite, 440.

The extension, which will end on August 31 of 2026, will also anticipate investments that would only be made in 2027.

Most of the grants of this project can be directed towards investments of public interest, such as new investments in the network itself or in other interventions of the national railway network (cross investments). These improvements shall be the obligation of the concessionaire.

History - The Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica S.A. obtained the concession of the Centro-Leste (Mid-eastern) Network, belonging to the Rede Ferroviária Federal S.A., in the auction held on 06/14/96. The grant of this concession was established by the Presidential Decree of 08/26/96, published in the Federal Official Gazette on 08/27/96. The company started to operate the public railway cargo transport services on 09/01/96.
